DHL offers German consumers QR code-based parcel shipping

German consumers can now hand over parcels to DHL delivery staff on their doorstep without having to print out a label.

DHL Parcel is expanding its ‘mobile parcel label’ service and offering customers a new alternative option to pay for and ship small packets and parcels.

Customers can buy the shipping label through the DHL Parcel app or online postage service and receive a QR code on their smartphone.

Instead of having to print out the label themselves or get it printed at a sales point, customers can now show the QR code to a DHL delivery person who can print out the shipping label. The delivery person then accepts the parcel and enters it into the DHL system at the delivery office at the end of his or her delivery round.

The new service, which is free of charge, is an alternative drop-off option to parcel shops, post offices or a DHL Packstation. Moreover, online postage is discounted, with prices for delivery within Germany up to €1.50 cheaper than retail prices.
