Night Star Express continues to keep volumes stable in 2018 despite tougher market conditions

Matthias Hohmann

Night Star Express, Europe’s second-largest in-night delivery company, recorded a slight shipment volume increase in 2018 transporting 5.4 million shipments despite significantly tougher market conditions with continuously rising material and personnel costs.

In 2017, the German-based in-night delivery specialist transported 5.37 million shipments. The company does not disclose revenues or profit figures.

Considering the general conditions in the last financial year, Night Star Express managing director Matthias Hohmann commented: "Thanks to great dedication of our employees, we were able to compensate for the loss of consignments in the course of the year by further developing our service and transport quality. For the current financial year, we therefore expect significantly higher growth again.”

“We are currently engaged in numerous negotiations with new and major customers. In addition, we are continuously developing our new IT so that we can implement process optimisations even more flexibly.”

The company will continue to focus on the consistent alignment of its services with the "first class" night express philosophy in 2019 as well. It plans further investments in quality, IT and sorting technology as well as the expansion of its European service range.

In addition, its corporate strategy includes the further development of the Night Star Express brand through a modern, dynamic and uniform market presence with the aim to position the company as an attractive employer under the motto "Brand creates trust”.

For 2019, Hohmann sees the current competitive situation on the night express market in a positive way. All relevant market participants act independently and are no longer tied to a single group. After all, companies are dependent on generating profits with their operational business. "I think Night Star Express is well equipped for the future. After all, competition is not just about prices. There is always a whole service package behind a figure. And that can be decisive when it comes to competition," he concluded.

Night Star Express was founded in 1993 by seven medium-sized German freight companies. The carrier picks up parcels across Germany by late afternoon and delivers them by not later than eight in the morning. Shipments are delivered to exact and individually prescribed locations, such as car boots, storehouses or depot boxes.
