DPD UK aims to double international revenues by 2025

More international parcels from DPD UK

DPD UK aims to continue the rapid growth of its international business, doubling revenues by 2025, after launching a ‘game-changing’ Flex service last year, according to a senior manager.

The parcels carrier has grown its international business dramatically over the last 15 years from revenues of just £14 million in 2002 to an expected £228 million this year with some 24 million export parcels, Mandy Deakin-Snell, international operations director, told the POST-EXPO 2018 conference in Hamburg yesterday.

The long-serving manager said DPD UK is aiming for revenues of £450 million from international shipments by 2025. “We will definitely be a half a billion pound business by then,” she declared confidently.

Deakin-Snell, who built up the company’s international business from scratch and now heads a team of 50 people, explained that DPD has benefited from a fully integrated domestic-international operation as well as the £20 million International Gateway at the company’s Hinckley super-hub that went into service in summer 2015.

This gateway, with capacity to process 18,000 parcels per hour and up to 180,000 per night, “could be a bonded facility post-Brexit if needed”, she pointed out.

Deakin-Snell also highlighted the success of the new DPD Flex service launched in January 2017. “This has fundamentally changed the way we do our international operation in DPD,” she said.

Designed to give business customers more flexibility and delivery options, DPD Flex offers ‘bespoke routing’ by country, shipment contents and weight, she explained. As a result, DPD now offers different final mile delivery options, enabling ‘best cost’ by country, she said.

In May 2018, DPD added an international collections service for returns to continue its portfolio expansion, she noted.
