DHL Express has invested €2 million in a new call centre serving France's Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region and the expansion of its hub at Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport.
The spend is in response to average annual growth in volumes of 10% in the region where it currently handles more than 30,000 parcels per day.
"Lyon is at the crossroads of European trade. It is essential for us to strengthen our presence in the the region, where our activities are growing strongly,” said Philippe Prétat, president and CEO of DHL Express France.
“This is due notably to the e-commerce boom which is real driver for us and has a considerable impact on our activities and where the quality of customer services is paramount," he added.
Ongoing growth will also see DHL Express invest €3 million in the creation of a new operating centre in the city of Annecy which is scheduled to open by mid-2019.
DHL Express has recruited more than 100 staff in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region over the past three years and where it currently employs close to 630 staff working from nine locations. There are plans to hire around 40 additional staff by the end of the year.
A "new generation" customer service centre is located in a historic building in the heart of Lyon while at the city's airport, DHL Express has built a new facility which has increased handling and warehouse capacity from 4,000 to 6,000 sqm.
The air hub handles shipments inbound from the company's hubs in Brussels and Leipzig and outbound to the German gateway.
