Amazon and SNCF to install 1,000 Amazon Lockers at French train stations

Amazon Locker in France

Amazon and French railway operator SNCF have teamed up to install 1,000 Amazon Lockers at French train stations to serve occasional or regular passengers as well as local residents throughout the country.

These new parcel terminals complete SNCF Gares & Connexions' Collect & Station product range, as well as the French network of Amazon Lockers, which are located at hypermarkets, petrol stations and shopping centres.

The 24/7 lockers offer French consumers a quick, easy and secure delivery to the collection point of their choice at no extra cost, with the lockers to be installed at more than 980 SNCF train stations in France over the next five years. Customers can generally pick up their package in less than 15 seconds.

Delivery to the Amazon Lockers is available for tens of millions of items sold on Amazon.com, with the products being delivered the next business day or in express mode.

Patrick Ropert, Managing Director of SNCF Gares & Connexions, said: "Our mission is to serve 10 million people who pass through the 3,000 French stations every day by transforming the stations into true urban villages. These parcel lockers for online purchases make people's lives easier.“

"Many Amazon customers who are busy or often on the go want to pick up their parcels when and where they want," Ronan Bolé, Amazon Director, Operations France, commented. "For Amazon, making life easier for our customers is a real obsession: that's why we can't wait for our customers to pick up their parcels at hundreds of SNCF stations equipped with an Amazon Locker in France".

After shopping at Amazon.com, customers make the payment and select an Amazon Locker, which they add as a new address to their list. Once the package has been delivered to the Amazon Locker, customers receive an e-mail with a unique pickup code, as well as the address and opening hours of the Amazon Locker they have chosen. They then have three days to pick up the package. Being in front of the Locker, they can enter the code or scan the barcode, which automatically opens the locker.

In 2017, SNCF Gares & Connexions generated revenues of €1.3 billion.
