Whistl acquires British e-commerce shippers Parcelhub and Mail Workshop

Whistl, the UK delivery management company with activities in Business Mail, Doordrop Media and Parcels in the UK and internationally, today announced the acquisition of Parcelhub and its sister company Mail Workshop, to expand its parcels and fulfilment operations.

Mail Workshop was launched in 2003 and provides e-commerce shipping and fulfilment, printed matter fulfilment, picking and packing. Parcelhub followed in 2010 and provides a multi-carrier shipping and e-commerce customer service solution for small to medium sized online retailers who don’t have access to large scale discounts available to large volume mailers.

Distributing over 6 million parcels annually across the UK on behalf of hundreds of e-commerce, ebay and Amazon retailers, the privately held company employs 90 people with a headquarters in Nottingham and was founded by Mark Rosenberg, Managing Director, and Steve Riley, IT Director.

Nick Wells, CEO Whistl UK Ltd, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Parcelhub and Mail Workshop into the Whistl family. It is a business that shares the same values as Whistl providing excellent customer services cost effectively. It also identified a gap in the market providing solutions for clients that could not access the services and discounts available to large volume mailers.

“Working together we will be able to optimise our current parcels services to customers and build upon our expertise and presence in the fulfilment market.”

Mark Rosenberg said: “We have got to a stage in the development of the company that we need the extra firepower from Whistl to enable us to maximise our potential and to create opportunities for further growth. We have a similar entrepreneurial outlook to business, providing services that make customer’s businesses run better operationally and cost efficiently.”

Following the purchase of the business, Mark Rosenberg will remain as Managing Director and continue to operate the business from Nottingham under the Parcehub and Mail Workshop brands. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

This is the second acquisition by Whistl following a management buyout in 2015. It acquired Prism DM in July 2017 and rebranded the business to Whistl Fulfilment in February this year as part of its its strategy to expand into the growing e-commerce market.

Headquartered in Marlow, Whistl operates from six depots across the UK handling 3.8 billion items a year
