DHL has launched a new app “DHL Packset” making it easier for customers to send parcels by helping them select the right size of the package set via augmented reality technology.
“At times, customers are not sure which package set size they need to send a particular item. Is, for example, a package set S sufficient for sending a toy? Or is the object so big that a Packset M is needed? The use of augmented reality technology makes parcel shipping even easier,” the company explained.
DHL said it is the first logistics company to support the innovative augmented reality technology of Apple's new operating system iOS 11.
The app scans a suitable interface and automatically inserts a virtual package set. Now, the customer can place the item to be shipped in it, choose the right package set from five sizes and, if necessary, add a shipping label in a fast, secure and easy way. To complete the order, the app transfers the customer to the e-branch of Deutsche Post where the selected products will be displayed in the shopping basket. Then the customer just needs to enter the contact details and the order will be shipped.
The DHL Packset app can now be downloaded from dhl.de/packset and in the iTunes store. The app is initially available only for devices from iPhone 6S and the newer models operating under the iOS 11 system. Android does not yet support this technology.
