Chronopost opens new depot in western France with €2 million investment

Chronopost depot in Carquefou

Chronopost has inaugurated a new depot in Carquefou, western France, with an investment of €2 million, due to strong commercial development in the region Pays de la Loire, with the capacity to handle 22,000 parcels daily.

Relocating its previous facility in Vertou, Chronopost set up the new facility in the immediate proximity to the A11 highway linking Paris to Nantes. This creates ideal geographical conditions for Chronopost’s economic development as it aims for 5% growth in the region this year.

The new depot is equipped with a modern sorting system which enables Chronopost to collect and distribute 22,000 parcels each day via 145 delivery routes. In addition, a new integrated infrastructure is dedicated to its new activity of delivering food (dry, fresh and frozen).

With an operational area of 6,300 sqm and office space covering 1,000 sqm, the new agency has 140 doors for light vehicles and 14 loading/unloading docks for heavy vehicles. Equipped with a state-of-the art picking mechanisation system that has a processing capacity of 8,500 parcels per hour, the agency of Carquefou also has two cold rooms: one for negative temperatures (-18 C°) covering 100 sqm and the other for positive temperatures (2-4 C°) of 300 sqm, to take care of packages with fresh and frozen food as part of the Chronofresh offering.

"Having direct access to the highway is an advantage for us. This allows us to save time (15 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening) while processing the parcel flows during collection and distribution and thus ensure an optimal service quality. This new agency, because of its size and its parcel-handling capacity, also offers important development opportunities, notably in the sectors of health, e-commerce, industry and food,” Alban Rondeau, Head of the Carquefou agency, said. The depot employs 54 people.

Chronopost employs 3,700 staff with more than 149 million parcels distributed in 2016. It generated revenues worth €6.2 billion in 2016.
