DHL Parcel claims it has gained 25% of the Austrian B2C market just one year after launching its challenge to market leader Austrian Post.
The company said that a recent study found that it had a 25% share of the country’s courier, express and parcels (CEP) market in the B2C and C2C segment during its first full financial year since beginning operations in Austria in September 2015. It now ranks second after Austrian Post.
The overall Austrian CEP market grew in volume terms by 16% to 182 million shipments in 2016, according to the study „Industry Radar CEP services in Austria 2017” by consultants Kreutzer, Fischer und Partner.
Parcel volumes soared by 35% thanks to B2C growth. All other major players (Austrian Post, DPD, Hermes) also increased their volumes thanks to this market growth but lost market share due to DHL Parcel’s even faster growth, the study authors pointed out.
Günter Birnstingl, Managing Director of DHL Parcel Austria, said: “We are very proud that we were able to achieve our goal of becoming the second biggest player on the domestic B2C/C2C parcel market in such a short time.
“We are certainly not resting on this success. On the contrary, we will make our offering even more attractive with regard to comfort and flexibility for shippers and recipients by expanding our network and services, thus not only consolidating our market position, but also expanding it. In order to cope with the growing demand on the parcels market, we have just started operations at new distribution centres in Graz and Vienna.”
DHL Parcel said it has had a good start in Austria since the beginning, especially due to its “customer-oriented recipient services such as evening and Saturday deliveries, customised deliveries on the desired day as well as a dense infrastructure.”
With regards to parcel shops, DHL Parcel already has the largest network with over 2,000 locations in Austria. It also operates 50 parcel terminals (“Packstations”) in Graz, Linz, Salzburg and Innsbruck, which enable customers to send and pick up their parcels 24/7.
“For e-commerce players, new business opportunities coupled with the e-commerce expertise of Deutsche Post DHL Group, as well as the high customer orientation through flexible delivery options for recipients and a powerful infrastructure are reasons for cooperating with DHL Parcel,” the company concluded.
