DHL increases locker deliveries by 35% in Sweden, opens Dutch shipping centre

DHL Express Sweden CEO Ted Söderholm

DHL recorded a 35% increase in deliveries to parcel terminals in Sweden in December and has opened its second exclusive parcel shipping centre in The Hague, the Netherlands.

DHL Express Sweden said that consumers continue to order more and more goods from abroad which results in a constant increase in home deliveries. “This challenges many carriers today, with most deliveries taking place during daytime.” The company offers consumers a number of different delivery solutions, but parcel lockers provide an even more customer-friendly solution.

Ted Söderholm, CEO DHL Express Sweden, commented: “In Sweden, we deliver thousands of packages from abroad to end-users each month and the number is rising sharply every year. It is important for us to offer a wide range of delivery options so that we create a positive shopping experience from ordering online to delivery to our customers. It should be simple, fast and flexible.”

DHL Express Sweden launched the ‘DHL-Swipbox’ terminals, operated in cooperation with Danish firm Swipbox, in December 2014 and has continuously expanded its network since then. Parcels are collected and transported by DHL Express all the way to the parcel lockers in a safe and secure way. Parcel recipients, in turn, can choose when, where and how they want to pick up their parcels.

Today, there are about 130 DHL Express parcel terminals installed in strategic locations in Sweden, such as grocery stores, malls, kiosks, bus and metro stations. “It is a simple, convenient and efficient way to send and receive parcels to and from abroad,” DHL Express Sweden concluded.

In the Netherlands, DHL has opened a new shipping centre in the shopping quarter Het Noordeinde in The Hague, following its first exclusive shop in van Baerlestraat in the Museum Quarter of Amsterdam.

At the so-called Shipping Spot for individuals, companies and retailers can send parcels and documents, both nationally and internationally, from 8am to 8pm on weekdays and until 6pm on Saturdays. Both standard and express services are available. Customers can also return their online purchases and pick up shipments. In addition, they can receive advice on customs duties and packaging materials.

Shop Manager Jaap Langelaar said about the new shop: “We are located between galleries, shops, close to embassies, ministries and the centre of The Hague but also between the companies – in other words in an international community of tourists and businessmen, expatriates, diplomats and of course the inhabitants of The Hague itself.”

DHL parcel shops are located at over 1,500 places across the Netherlands.
