Geis Group plans Central Europe investments after parcel acquisition

German logistics operator Geis Group will invest in its network in Central Europe this year with new depots in Poland and the Czech Republic after acquisitions of parcels and logistics firms drove growth last year.

One of the company’s main area of investment in 2015 was its network expansion. Geis placed its focus on two acquisitions in Poland: it took over ET Logistik, specialised in ground transportation and contract logistics, and K-EX, one of the largest parcel and courier companies. In Central Europe, Geis thus provides customers with comprehensive cargo, parcel and logistics services.

In 2015, the freight transport company increased overall revenues by 8% to €986 million while the number of transport and logistics contracts rose by 9.6% to 8.08 million and transported tonnage grew by 7.5% to 5.72 million tons. Parcel volumes more than doubled to reach 24.4 million shipments, compared to 10.5 million the previous year, mainly thanks to the acquisition of K-EX.

"Despite the difficult economic environment in Europe, we were able to continue the positive development of the last few years thanks to important investments," managing partners Hans-Georg Geis and Wolfgang Geis said. "We are satisfied with the result."

While the Road Services Germany division recorded a slight revenue decline of 1.7%, the Road Services Central Europe division increased revenues by 37% due to the acquisitions. The Logistics Services division was also successful posting a 6.2% revenue increase while the Air + Sea Services segment achieved solid revenue growth of 8%.

Geis also opened a new hub in Fulda/Eichenzell, Hesse, Germany, tripling its capacity in the region. With the network expansion, Geis increased its workforce by 27% to 6,277 people at 140 sites across Europe last year.

Looking ahead to 2016, Geis Group wants to further expand its strong position in Central Europe and to continue investing in its network expansion. The group plans to construct new parcels and cargo depots in Poland and Czech Republic, and also started new contract logistics projects at the beginning of this year.

“Our goal is and remains qualified company growth,” the two managing partners said. “Therefore, we will continue focusing on customer proximity, quality and innovation.”
