SNCF Logistics, whose major component is Geodis, posted a 2015 gross profit (EBITDA) of €295 million which takes into account a €196 million fine from the French authorities for anti-competitive price-fixing in the parcel delivery segment.
Geodis has appealed against the fine but such action does not have a suspensive effect and is therefore included in the results.
In 2014, SNCF posted an EBITDA of €431 million.
Unlike previous years, annual figures specific to Geodis will not be published for 2015, a company spokesperson confirmed.
A summary of SNCF Logistics' performance in 2015 highlights "an improvement in the profitability in Geodis' business lines, notably freight forwarding (+€18 million)" as well as in the rail and multi-modal freight division which includes unit, Fret SNCF (+€49 million)
Geodis' final mile delivery and express services division was not mentioned.
SNCF Logistics 2015 turnover totalled €9,251 million, down 0.5% on a like-for-like basis on the previous year, largely due to the knock-on effect of the fall in oil prices which affected revenue in the road haulage segment and also to the decline in air and ocean freight rates.
In November last year, Geodis finalised the acquisition of Tennessee, US-based third party logistics (3PL) provider Ozburn-Hessey Logistics (OHL).
The purchase price is thought to have been in the region of $800 million.
Employing over 8,000 staff and with an annual revenue reported at €1.2 billion, OHL operates more than 120 distribution centres in North America and has warehousing stock of around 350,000 sqm.
