Hermes UK to open 450 parcel shops at Co-op stores

A Co-op Food store

Hermes UK has partnered with Co-operative Food (Co-op), the UK’s fifth biggest food retailer with almost 2,800 local, convenience and medium-sized stores, to offer its parcel shop click and collect services at more than 450 of the retailer’s outlets nationwide.

The agreement provides more choice and convenience to online shoppers and makes Co-op one of Hermes’ biggest business partners.

Following successful tests across 42 Co-op Food stores last year, Hermes and Co-op have continuously extended the service across the UK. As a result, millions of Co-op customers will be able to pick up their online purchases from leading retailers such as H&M, JD Williams and River Island.

In addition, shoppers will be able to send their returns back to retailers such as ASOS, Debenhams and John Lewis and also use the cost-effective myHermes service to send parcels from the Co-op shops.

Hermes and Co-operative will strategically choose which Co-op outlets will offer the parcel shop services based on a range of criteria including location, consumer demand and opening hours.

Hermes UK CEO Carole Woodhead said: “By entering a partnership with such an established and trusted retailer like Co-op, we have further strengthened our dedicated network of 4,500 parcel shops. This partnership focuses on convenience, with consumers being able to buy groceries whilst also sending parcels, collecting or returning their online purchases, and vice versa. With 92% of the country within two miles of an outlet, ParcelShops offer a local, useful and convenient click and collect service for retail clients.”

Chris Whitfield, Co-op’s Retail and Logistics Director, commented: “As a community retailer, we are committed to enhancing the communities in which we operate. The pilot scheme clearly demonstrated that the Hermes parcel shop service is used and appreciated by many of our customers and so we are delighted to extend it to many more stores.”
