Major Spanish parcels company SEUR generated strong growth last year, with a 7% revenue rise and 16% volume increase, and plans to invest some €50 million on capacity and services up to 2020.
After 5% revenue growth in 2014, SEUR, majority-owned by DPDgroup, continued its recovery last year with a 7% rise to revenues of €600 million while volumes increased even faster with a 16% increase to 95 million parcels.
Once again, the company's growth was driven by B2C deliveries and international shipments. Parcel deliveries generated by e-commerce increased to 90,000 per day, resulting in a 25% rise to B2C revenues of €150 million. International sales also grew to 25% last year, reaching turnover of €137 million.
"Both of these are priority segments that we share with DPDgroup, which reinforces our operational capacity at a pan-European level, ensuring a stronger presence in all the markets and offering our clients a complete guarantee of service in any country," declared CEO Alberto Navarro.
Looking ahead, SEUR announced that it plans to invest some €50 million up to 2020 in expanding capacity to cope with rising volumes and also developing innovative new services. The Spanish e-commerce parcels market is predicted to reach €1 billion by then.
"Our plan up to 2020 includes investments of €50 million, reflecting forecasts for rising demand which we need to respond to from our position of leadership in the sector. No doubt, these investments will be very dependent on the development of the economy and consumption in the next few years," Navarro added.
The investments will focus mostly in two main areas. One will be to strengthen the network and operating capacity and the other will be innovations to develop new solutions that improve the customer experience. These will include more interaction at each stage of the delivery process, with more added-value options such as changing the delivery date or address to a Pickup point.
Overall, SEUR has a workforce of 6,600 people (3% more than in 2014), a fleet of 3,800 vehicles and 81 branches as well as 1,000 sales points. It claims to be the most popular parcel service in Spain with customer satisfaction of more than 90% and a customer loyalty level of 95%.
