Spanish postal group Correos will install ‘CityPaq’ parcel lockers in various Vodafone offices across the country as it aims to speed up the rollout of the self-service terminals.
Correos president Javier Cuesta Nuin and Francisco Román, president of Vodafone Spain, presented the first locker, which is already operating at the Madrid head office of the international telecoms group, and signed an agreement for additional installations in Valencia and the cities of La Coruña and Vigo in Galicia.
Román commented: “We thank Correos for enabling us to offer our employees an additional services that responds to the growing needs resulting from e-commerce, which enables them to pick up orders at their workplace.”
Cuesta Nuin explained: “With CityPaq, Correos aims to simplify life as much as possible for e-commerce customers and offer them a convenient and flexible solution to pick up their parcels when and how they wish.”
The CityPaq lockers will be available to users throughout the opening hours of the building where they are located. The terminals each have up to 80 compartments of different sizes that can be adapted to the size of the parcel.
Correos launched the ‘CityPaq’ parcel terminals in late 2014, with plans to install up to 60 terminals, supplied by Austria’s KEBA, during 2015. However, the rollout appears to be making slow progress so far and has reached about 26 installations, according to a search on the Correos ‘CityPaq’ website, including Madrid (14), Barcelona (10), Valencia (1) and Malaga (1).
Some 80 Spanish e-retailers using Magento, Prestashop or Comandia webshop solutions are able to offer the option of deliveries directly to a CityPaq terminal when the customer makes the order. Customers of other e-retailers can request ‘direct delivery’ to a CityPaq terminal of their choice.
Customers will receive a pick-up code on their smartphone or by e-mail once the parcel is ready for collection. Orders have to be collected within three days.
