Night Star Express posts moderate volume growth in 2015

German-based night delivery company Night Star Express recorded moderate shipment volume growth of 4.5% in 2015, driven by its cross-border business and new customers in the core industries, and expects continuing volume growth for this year as well.

Last year, the company, which sees itself as Europe’s second-largest night delivery specialist, transported 5.1 million shipments.

Night Star Express managing director Matthias Hohmann commented: “Despite a continuously difficult market environment, we are quite satisfied with the result. However, the prices on the night express market do not meet the complex requirements of the providers and therefore remain challenging.”

Despite the challenges, Hohmann expects the shipment volume growth to continue during the current financial year. Already in the beginning of 2016, the company was able to win large new customers and is currently in negotiations with other potential customers.

Hohmann explained that more and more companies use night express services for rapid deliveries of urgently needed spare parts before the start of a working day as an integral part of their process management.

Apart from a time advantage, reducing the costs for the storage of spare parts is an important criterion for customers, Hohmann stressed. "If the quality is good, nothing stands in the way of a successful collaboration. The investments we have made over the last years in our service portfolio, Saturday deliveries and IT tools are now paying off. Customers like it. This builds up confidence and opens doors.”

This year, Night Star Express plans further investments in IT services to offer more added value in terms of deliveries for its customers.

Night Star Express was founded in 1993 by seven medium-sized German freight companies. The carrier picks up parcels across Germany by late afternoon and delivers them by not later than eight in the morning. Shipments are delivered to exact and individually prescribed locations, such as car boots, storehouses or depot boxes.
