DHL and China’s JD.com sign new agreement on cross-border logistics

DHL

DHL and China’s major e-retailer JD.com have expanded their partnership with a new cooperation on cross-border logistics to leverage the two companies' expertise in logistics and e-commerce after JD.com signed up DHL last year to ship American products ordered on JD.com's US Mall to and across China.

Under the new agreement, DHL will become the preferred logistics provider for JD.com's International Business Group, which focuses on international consumers in markets outside of China. JD.com will also become a strategic customer under DHL's initiative “Fast Growing Enterprises” and gain access to a comprehensive range of logistics solutions across all DHL business units. These include international express; air, ocean and road freight; warehousing; parcel delivery; e-commerce services and access to fulfillment distribution centers and local distribution services in key regions to support the global growth of JD.com internationally. Currently, DHL is also providing international express services between China and France.

In addition, DHL and JD.com have agreed to explore the development of innovative cross-border supply chain systems and operating processes, building on DHL's international industry experience to support the design and development of JD.com's rapidly expanding global supply chain network. The two companies will work on developing commercial and technical innovations to establish bilateral commercial agreements that benefit both parties.

Wu Dongming, CEO, DHL Express China, said: "Supporting the evolving needs of China's online consumers will require in-depth knowledge of international transport, warehouse, and distribution. DHL is well positioned to address this with our leading-edge facilities and expansive global infrastructure, which includes 11 gateways in China covering major trading hubs and inter-city connections."

"We are also present in more than 220 countries and territories worldwide, and supported by more than 325,000 employees. With 30 years of industry experience in China, we can provide the infrastructure and expertise that our valued partners like JD.com depend on to better service their customers," Wu added.

Victor Xu, President, JD.com's International Business Group, commented: "JD.com is setting the global standard for the e-commerce experience with our reputation for delivering high-quality products at amazingly fast speeds. Partnerships with global leaders such as DHL will further enhance the level of service we offer our customers and merchant partners throughout the world. The expansion of our partnership with DHL will ensure we continue to strengthen our high standards of efficiency and convenience, even as we quickly scale up our cross-border ecommerce services."
