TNT also lodges appeal against French price-fixing fine

TNT Express has also lodged an appeal against a price-fixing fine handed out by the French Competition Authority (FCA) in December last year, a company spokesman has confirmed to CEP-Research.

The Dutch group received a financial penalty of €58.5m when the FCA announced fines totalling more than €672 million to 20 operators as well as trade body Transport et Logistique de France (TLF) following an investigation into suspect commercial practices between 2004 and 2010.

Firms who have appealed against the fines include Geodis, La Poste units Chronopost and DPD France, DHL Express, Dachser, Gefco, XPO Logistics and DB Schenker. 25 January had been the deadline for the submission of appeals.

“We have appealed the decision,” the TNT  spokesman said.“We booked a €50 million provision in the third quarter of 2014,” adding that he was not able to comment further at this stage.

TNT Express said in a press release issued at the time of the FCA's decision: “TNT has co-operated with the investigation since it started in 2010. During the third quarter of 2014, TNT entered into a settlement agreement with the FCA and booked a provision of €50 million in relation to this matter. TNT will review the merits of the decision.”
