DHL Express Russia expands geographical coverage of biological sample express delivery

DHL Express Russia has significantly expanded the geographical coverage of its specialised express delivery service of biological samples with dry ice and now picks up and delivers samples to and from 127 cities, including the south of Russia, Siberia and the Far East.

Frozen samples that need dry ice for transportation are highly demanded in Russia, with DHL Express now adding the following cities to the list of the destinations served: Abakan, Khabarovsk, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Magadan, Makhachkala, Novokuznetsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The whole network of cities that DHL serves with biological samples including both those that are shipped at room temperature and the cooled or frozen samples now covers 139 cities.

DHL Russia stressed that it has been continuously developing its operational capabilities and enhancing its solutions for the delivery of biological samples. In addition to its ongoing network expansion in Russia, it has also reduced the delivery time of the service. Thus, the transit times for shipments to and from a number of Russian cities have recently been reduced to 24 hours. Moreover, samples with dry ice can now be picked up for delivery every weekday. To achieve this, DHL now delivers the dry ice on a weekend prior to a shipment booking.

“In general, the transportation of biological samples as well as pharmaceuticals, laboratory test kits for all kinds of medical research and laboratory diagnosis is one of the most rapidly growing sectors for DHL Express both in Russia and abroad. Annually, DHL Express ships tens of thousands of biological samples from Russia to Switzerland, the Netherlands, UK, Germany, USA and other countries. Biological material is also shipped throughout Russia. By the end of 2015, DHL Express Russia increased its revenues in this particular segment by over 50%”, the company stated.

Within DHL’s international network, Russia was the country with the largest number of biological samples shipped both on the domestic and international levels in 2015.

Anna Klinskova, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, DHL Express Russia, commented: “DHL is the leading provider of express delivery services for biological samples in Russia and a reliable partner for a socially important segment such as medicine and pharmaceuticals. Logistics plays an important role as a connecting link in the chain, supporting the clinical research of pharmaceuticals launched on the Russian market and laboratory diagnosis tests that monitor patients’ state of health. Reliable, efficient and quick delivery, aligned with all the necessary transportation conditions and regulations, speeds up the completion of tests and reduces the risk of possible errors or failures.”
