PostNL yesterday processed and delivered more than 1.4 million parcels, a 30% rise on last year and its highest-ever volume on one day.
The figure is also 100,000 more than on 1 December, the record day before ‘Sinterklaas’ when more than 1.3 million parcels were delivered. Christmas gifts but also a large number of wine-parcels had a large share in the volume, the company said.
“Our 18 sorting centres have been working full steam in December. We have 3,100 parcel delivery drivers working today. That is 500 more than we would have on an average delivery day. I’m really proud that our employees and parcel deliverers have been able to set this record by working very hard. Eventually this is in the interest of our (sending) customers and (receiving) consumers,” said PostNL Parcels Director Gerrit Mastenbroek.
PostNL has extended its parcel delivery options this year. It can deliver at a pre-selected time from Monday to Friday until 9:30pm and also delivers parcels at the weekend. In addition, it is now easier for consumers to have their parcels delivered to one of the 2,600 PostNL collection locations.
