Dutch mail deliverers will get slight pay rises under a new collective labour agreement (CLA) reached by PostNL and trade unions Bond van Post Personeel, FNV Publiek Belang and CNV Publieke Diensten.
The agreement, which includes provisions for pay increases and expense compensation, is valid for two years. It will go into effect retroactively as of 1 October 2015, and will remain effective until 30 September 2017.
The pay rises will take place in several stages over the next two years. Mail deliverer salaries in the first, second and third pay tiers will be increased by 0.9% as of 1 January 2016, 0.5% as of 1 July 2016, 0.9% as of 1 January 2017 and 0.5% as of 1 July 2017.
In addition, the expense allowance will now be based on the number of contract hours a mail deliverer works. The allowance varies from €70 to €105 per year and is paid out per month. Additionally, mail deliverers will be compensated for the use of their own smartphone at work.
Albert Rodenboog, Director of PostNL Production, explains: “This agreement in principle underlines our appreciation for the mail deliverers, who are our ambassadors on the street. Furthermore, this agreement meets the challenges of our company. Our letter mail volumes continue to decline and we have to control our costs.”
The trade unions will submit this agreement in principle to the mail deliverers who are union members in the coming weeks. The results of the member council meetings are expected at the end of January.
