PostNL has started a nationwide same-day delivery service across the Netherlands with nine webshops as launch customers.
Customers of the participating webshops can order goods online up to 12.00 noon and will receive them the same day between 6.00 pm and 9.30 pm. The service is available Monday-Friday and consumers may have to pay a small delivery fee depending on the webshop.
PostNL said it is starting this new delivery option with nine webshops and would like to extend this service to other parties in the future. The launch customers are Fonq, Alternate, wijnvoordeel.nl, wijnbeurs.nl, Scheer & Foppen, Camera.nu, EDC Internet, Kookwinkel Oldenhof and belsimpel.nl.
Explaining the new service, the Dutch postal group said webshops expect their customers to have a lot of interest in this new delivery method. Consumers would particularly like to receive electronics, gadgets, foodstuffs and wine the same day, making same day delivery an attractive option. “PostNL is starting this service just before the holidays so that last-minute Sinterklaas or busy Father Christmas can deliver his presents the same evening.”
Same day delivery is one of the delivery services recently developed with retailers to respond effectively to consumer demand. Gerrit Mastenbroek, director PostNL Parcels & Logistics Benelux explained: ‘We continuously introduce new innovative solutions in order to respond to consumer demand. Same day delivery and the expansion from two to five days a week evening delivery are good examples. From now on we enable consumers to receive their orders 5 nights a week. In addition, we are developing a network for food delivery.”
PostNL has previously introduced ‘Sunday delivery’, ‘5 evenings per week’, ‘in self-chosen time windows’ and ‘parcel Locker delivery’. On average, the company delivers 500,000 parcels a day throughout all of the Netherlands.
