DPD UK records double-digit growth in revenues and profits in 2014

DPD UK posted strong double-digit growth both in its operating profit and revenues in 2014, especially thanks to new services for customers including the introduction of Sunday deliveries, and its international business.

The recently filed accounts by DPDgroup UK Ltd for 2014 showed that its operating profits surged 20% to £106 million while its turnover rose even stronger by 26% to reach £873 million, British media reported. The UK generated the bulk of revenues with £780 million.

The figures were confirmed by a DPD UK spokesman to CEP-Research.

The company, owned by French postal operator La Poste, reportedly saw faster growth from outbound international services than from domestic services in 2014. Its international business was particularly boosted by the acquisition of a 63.5% stake in wnDirect.

Last year, DPD launched a Sunday delivery service as the first company in the UK calling it a "real game changer" for the market. It also expanded its “Follow My Parcel” service to provide more choice to customers with a range of ‘in-flight’ delivery options.

An important move in 2014 was DPD UK’s investment in its £100 million hub in Hinckley, Leicestershire, which became operational in August this year. The facility is considered to be the largest in of its kind in Europe boosting DPD's capacity by 65%.

A forward-looking statement from directors said DPD's board "believes that the group is well placed" for further sales and profit growth from "core products and value-added services". The company said it is committed to continue investing in its nationwide network of depots.
