Russian SPSR Express signs Asian partnerships and predicts import boom

SPSR Express

Russian express operator SPSR Express has signed logistics partnerships with MOYO, maker of an innovative ‘intellectual’ TV-system and Huawei, the Chinese telecoms and mobile phone group, and is forecasting a strong increase in cross-border deliveries to Russia.

As part of the contract with MOYO, which brings together TV channels and online video services and selects appropriate programmes according to the user’s preferences, SPSR will provide a full logistics cycle including order fulfillment in Hong Kong, cross-border delivery and last-mile delivery to Russia.

On the last-mile, the buyers of the MOYO Box will be able to choose from all kinds of delivery types ranging from couriers and order pick-up centres to parcel terminals. SPSR Express said its logistics services provide a choice of convenient options to get the ordered shipments in a shortest possible time.

Alex Vasilyev, Head of Department for International Development at SPSR Express, said: “We are pleased to start cooperating with MOYO, which seeks to implement the direct sales model, offering consumers access to the product as soon as possible. We believe that the cooperation with SPSR Express which implies clear, transparent and convenient logistics solutions will contribute to the business development of our partner."

Andrey Holodnyi, General Director of MOYO, added: “Today, it is not so easy to find a partner that can fulfill the required tasks at a decent level, so we are really pleased to be working with SPSR Express. The buyers of MOYO are not only demanding in terms of the product as such but also in terms of its delivery times and quality. We now live in such a dynamic world that if the buyer wants to buy something today but cannot get the desired product "tomorrow”, there is a risk of losing him/her in the early stage of the purchase decision.”

Meanwhile, SPSR Express also started delivering the flagship smartphone Honor 7 as the official logistics partner of Huawei, with a limited edition of 1,500 items being dispatched via the company’s official online shop shop.huawei.ru since the end of September. Delivery times in Moscow are 1 day while the delivery to regional centres of Russia takes 1-3 days.

During his speech at a Chinese-Russian e-commerce summit, Vasilyev made a forecast that the share of express operators in cross-border deliveries to Russia will reach 50% in the next five years. “Today, 90% of the shipments from China are delivered through the postal channel,” he said.

"The increase in traffic through the express channel will be boosted by Russian consumers expecting better service quality from Chinese online retailers, namely the introduction of services to which they are accustomed to when buying at Russian online stores – cash on delivery and the possibility of buying on credit,” he said.

Today, the share of Chinese shipments in overall international parcel volumes to Russia already amounts to 70%. Around 15% of the international shipments come from the USA. The remaining share is divided between the UK, Germany and other countries.

By 2020, Vasilyev expects the number of parcels from abroad to reach 350-400 million per year. In comparison, around 76 million shipments were sent through mail, express and alternative channels to Russia from abroad in 2014.

He named several factors that are likely to contribute to such dynamic growth in 2020. One of those is the implementation of the ‘payment on delivery’ option by logistics operators that Russians are used to when purchasing products at Russian web shops. The optimisation of the delivery process, which has already become more transparent, by express operators is also important, as well as the possibility for customers to choose a delivery mode most convenient to them. The final important factor he named is a positive shopping experience that Russian customers would get when buying at foreign online shops with a wide range of products and competitive prices.
