Russian Post launches EMS express delivery service for local retail store chains

Russian Post

Russian Post has launched a new express delivery service for managing the inventory of local retail store chains including operational movement of goods between the stores, with the country’s leading shoe and accessories retailer Kari successfully testing the solution.

The delivery solution is based on the EMS express delivery service. Shipments are collected at Russian Post’s sorting centres and delivered to the retail stores at a time agreed with the customer. The postal operator also moves the goods between different stores. Delivery to a retail point can contain both separate packages and consolidated products.

For the retail chains, Russian Post offers four fixed tariffs for shipments weighing up to 5 kg, 10 kg, 20 kg and 31.5 kg. The delivery times are minimised by optimising courier routes and special marking of packaging. The weight and size of items are subject to restrictions set for EMS express shipments with a maximum weight of 31.5 kg and maximum dimensions of up to 150 cm. Similar restrictions also apply to the content of the items.

The first customer to test the new EMS solution is the footwear and accessories retailer Kari which has taken the opportunity to manage the product inventory of its stores, thus significantly optimising its logistics costs. The service has been tested and implemented in almost 600 stores of its retail network across Russia.

“Realising the complexity and high costs of the operational movement of goods between stores for retailers and recharging the points of sale, we have developed, tested and launched this solution. The solution is highly demanded on the market as it gives the opportunity to shops to save considerable costs on their own logistics. It is worth noting that this is a one of its kind solution countrywide in terms of its geographical coverage, cost and delivery speed,” Sergey Malyshev, Russian Post Deputy General Director, Parcels and Express, said.

“With an extensive network of stores across the country, our company constantly works on improving the efficiency of the logistics processes. With Russian Post, we began to work closely over a year ago, with the cooperation initially starting only in the framework of the traditional postal services for express delivery of items. We are very pleased that the management of Russian Post is paying great attention to the needs of their customers,” Valentin Dmitriev, General Director of KARI, said.
