DHL Express has been honoured with a SmartWay Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and recognised as an industry leader in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency.
SmartWay recognised DHL Express in the U.S. for its initiatives and efforts to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions within its operations. Between 2014 and 2015, DHL invested more than $50 million in new, more fuel-efficient vehicles. The company now has more than 500 liquid propane gas (LPG) vehicles along with many new fully electric, hybrid-electric and certified clean diesel vehicles.
“We are honoured to have been selected as a leader in environmental performance,” said Cain Moodie, Vice President and Head of Operations for DHL Express U.S. “Sustainability is a key pillar in our business model and is fully integrated into our company’s culture. DHL always considers eco-friendly technologies, ensuring that all newly purchased vehicles are more eco-friendly than those being replaced.”
DHL Express was one of 39 carriers to receive this distinction from the EPA, representing the best environmental performers of SmartWay’s nearly 3,000 partners. The carrier Excellence Award recipients were honoured at the American Trucking Association’s Annual Management Conference & Exhibition held in Philadelphia on Oct. 19.
