PostNord today announced it will not sell off its loss-making ‘information logistics’ business Strålfors and will instead merge its physical and digital communications activities.
The Swedish-Danish postal group, which is in the midst of a long-term restructuring programme, said at the start of this year that it was reviewing the future of the subsidiary, which offers business communications, data management, marketing communications and service fulfilment.
CEO Håkan Ericsson said at the time that Strålfors might be divested in order to free up capital in PostNord and to enable Strålfors to grow through a new ownership structure. In 2014, the business had net revenues of SEK 2.67 billion and made an operating loss of SEK 63 million.
However, PostNord said today that it had completed evaluation of a possible divestment and had decided to retain Strålfors in the PostNord Group. Instead, a new, joint business area for the Group’s physical and digital communication offerings, incorporating Strålfors, will be established.
“PostNord will integrate its digital and physical communication operations more strongly to build greater customer benefit and competitiveness. The Group’s service development in physical and digital communication will be merged in one new, business area – Communication Services – based on the Mail & Communication business area and Strålfors’ service development business.
“Strålfors’ operational activities will continue to be run as a sub-group, which has main responsibility for marketing, production and selling multi-channel solutions and print,” PostNord stated.
Annemarie Gardshol, acting CEO of Strålfors since early summer, has been appointed CEO. Details of the new organisation will be developed during the autumn.
