Amazon has launched its ‘Amazon Pantry’ service in Germany and Austria for Amazon Prime members allowing them to purchase favourably-priced products of daily use such as non-perishable groceries, household goods or beauty products and get them delivered altogether in one box at their doorstep.
The so-called Pantry Box comprises up to 20 kg or 110 litres (roughly the size of a supermarket trolley) and is conveniently delivered to the desired destination for a shipping fee of just €4.99 per box.
If requested, recipients can get their Pantry Box deposited during their absence in a safe place (such as the garage, the terrace or the garden house). Delivery takes up to 2-3 days in Germany and 2-4 days in Austria.
Amazon Germany explained that this is a new way for customers to get the bulk of their weekly shopping of everyday products delivered to their homes instead of having to go to the supermarket.
While fresh food is not included in the new service, in contrast to ‘Amazon Fresh’, which is available in selected areas of the USA, it covers a wide range of products that consumers usually purchase at a supermarket.
From now on, Amazon Prime members in Germany and Austria who pay €49 per year for the Prime service can choose from thousands of products in household sizes and quantities. These include beverages, non-perishable food and diverse kinds of household goods.
All products available in the Pantry Store (www.amazon.de/pantry) are marked with a Pantry logo and easy to find within Amazon’s range of products. When a customer puts a Pantry product into the shopping cart, a Pantry Box is created automatically. While continuing shopping, customers can oversee the number of products and the filling level of the pantry box any time and at one glance. If the first Pantry parcel is filled to 100% but the customer wants to continue shopping for Pantry products, a further box will be opened.
"We are always looking for new ways to save time and money for the customer. With Amazon Pantry, Prime members from Germany and Austria can now get a large part of their weekend shopping done anytime and anywhere – and without having to carry it. This leaves more time for the good things in life," Ralf Kleber, Country Manager Amazon.de., said.
