Peter Somers launches e-commerce logistics firm Sprintpack

Peter Somers

Peter Somers, a former member of the executive committee of bpost, has launched an e-commerce logistics company SPRINTPACK in Belgium and China with strong growth ambitions.

As from September 1, Somers leads SprintPack, offering Belgian and international companies eCommerce solutions such as the organisation of high quality and efficient delivery of parcels, 3PL activities such as warehousing, pick&pack and the set-up of web shops. These components allow every company to enjoy a fully integrated ‘one-stops-shop eCommerce solution’, which is unique on the Belgian market.

The core team supporting the start-up of SprintPack in Europe consists of Marnix Bakker (Commercial), Jan Kooyman (Operations) and Steven Schutter (IT solutions). They have a broad experience similar to Somers in terms of eCommerce logistics.

Somers intends to become a shareholder and a board member of SD Group Logistics, a Belgian logistics player consisting of Soditra Logistic, Sobeltax Distribution, Sotradis, Europa Belgium, DBP and Sodisoft with consolidated revenues over €75 million, employing 450 people and operating over 100,000 sqm of logistical space in Belgium. SD Group Logistics will also be a shareholder of SprintPack.

Making use of the logistics backbone of the SD Group in Belgium, flexible delivery options by trustworthy last mile operators and a smart IT solution, SprintPack will offer B2C logistics solutions from Belgium for the European market, from Beijing for the Chinese market and in 2016 from the USA.

SprintPack China also starts in October and will be led by Maggie Li, former CEO of bpost China. Li and P2P Mailing Ltd, an eCommerce international delivery solutions provider based in the UK, also participate in this venture.

Somers explained: “I’m confident that the international experience of the teams in Belgium and China, the unique E-Commerce solutions amongst which a one-stop-shop solution, will guarantee an innovative and qualitative service that better answers the needs of the rapidly evolving requirements that eCommerce shippers and consumers have.”

Peter Somers was a member of the Executive Committee of bpost and headed bpost Parcels & International until last year, then a rapidly growing business unit with over €475 million revenues, covering bpost’s B2C and B2B parcel activities in Belgium, bpost international parcel and mail activities in Belgium, Europe, Asia and the Americas. He was also responsible for the design and the start-up of the home delivery service of groceries ordered online, now called ‘Combo’. Prior to bpost, Peter Somers was CEO of Richard Kempers Logistics, active in the B2B transport and logistics industry.
