DPD Switzerland launches cross-border consumer parcel deliveries to 28 EU countries

DPD Switzerland is expanding its B2C business by launching cross-border parcel deliveries for private customers from Switzerland to 28 EU countries as part of DPDgroup’s international growth strategy.

“The parcels market is changing rapidly. The e-commerce industry is becoming increasingly important now making the bulk of the parcel volumes. Private persons act not only as a recipient but also as a shipper. In recent months, DPD Switzerland has taken a number of initiatives to meet the needs of individuals and small shippers even better,” the company explained the move.

With the cross-border delivery service, DPD Switzerland is integrating over 600 domestic Pickup parcel shops in the pan-European network of DPDgroup. From the end of October this year, private customers can send parcels from the DPD Pickup parcel shops in Switzerland to 28 European countries at attractive rates. Like all DPD parcels, these cross-border deliveries will also be made in a fully carbon-neutral way, at no extra cost for the customer, DPD stressed.

The company also relaunched its DPD Web Parcel website (dpdwebparcel.ch) with new design and services making it even easier for private and small shippers to create and pay their parcel label online. Customers who don’t want to go to the next Pickup parcel shop to hand over their parcel can also order a pick-up from home.

With returns being an integral part of online trade, DPD Switzerland has simplified the returns process by introducing a Return function on its new DPD Web Parcel website. The shipper thus provides the recipient an automatically generated return code with which the latter can register and create a return parcel label.

“We increasingly focus on e-commerce customers,” Marc Hasler, DPD Switzerland CEO, explained. “With more than 600 parcel pick-up and drop-off points as well as online solutions, we now also offer private individuals access to our strong logistics network for shipping and returns.”

DPD Switzerland is also planning new services for private customers. “Receiving parcels in a convenient way should round off shopping at the online store as a perfect customer experience,” he continued. “Therefore, we are working on a recipient portal where the customer finds everything he/she needs in a few seconds.”

The parcel recipient not only sees the exact location of the parcel in real time but also when the driver is about to arrive with it. In addition, various additional options can be chosen even if the parcel is already on its way to adjust delivery to customers’ needs. For example, the parcel can be re-directed to another address or deposited at one of the Pickup parcel shops.

With some 900 staff and drivers, DPD delivers more than 16 million parcels a year in Switzerland.
