Businesses and consumers are flocking to use Lithuania Post’s self-service terminals, with demand doubling in the first seven months of this year.
Usage of the 71 ‘LP EXPRESS 24’ terminals grew by 100% from January to July, the postal operator said. The lockers are mostly used by residents of the three largest towns in Lithuania – Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda.
Business customers used self-service terminals almost twice as much as last year, while residential customers' use increased by 128%. S and M size parcels were the most popular ones, which accounted for 44% and 38% respectively of total volumes.
“We are pleased that the self-service parcel terminals LP EXPRESS 24 have become a convenient way to dispatch and receive parcels to and from business and residential customers. Fast growing electronic commerce and a possibility to use self-service terminals 24 hours per day allow more and more people to discover this service. I have no doubt that demand for the LP EXPRESS 24 self-service parcel terminals will increase even more in the future,” said Juozas Buitkus, head of the Lithuanian Post subsidiary Baltic Post, which operates the terminals.
He also pointed out that not all European countries can be proud of having self-service parcel terminals. “I am aware that the Swedes, Portuguese, Croats and Slovenians have no opportunity to use self-service terminals yet, while Switzerland's self-service terminals network is twice as small as the one in Lithuania. What we have achieved during the last four years is a huge accomplishment.”
Currently, there are 71 LR EXPRESS 24 self-service parcel terminals installed in Lithuania. Using these self-service terminals it is possible to dispatch parcels not only within Lithuania but also to 22 European countries. Compared with 2014, dispatch of parcels abroad increased by 92%.
