More than 4,000 FedEx pilots will vote on a new pay agreement next month after a tentative agreement between the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) and the company was approved by the union’s FedEx section.
The FedEx Master Executive Council (MEC), the governing body of the FedEx unit of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), voted on August 27 to approve the tentative contract agreement reached on August 19 with FedEx management.
The agreement, achieved after more than a year of negotiations and with the assistance of the National Mediation Board, now goes before more than 4,000 FedEx pilots eligible to vote in balloting that is scheduled to begin September 28, 2015, and close on October 20, 2015.
The new agreement provides across-the-board increases to hourly pay rates and new-hire compensation, a significant signing bonus that addresses the time elapsed since the agreement was amendable, retirement plan enhancements, and work-rule improvements.
If ratified, the contract will go into effect November 2015 and would become amendable in 2021.
“After careful consideration and thorough debate, our governing body recognised the value this agreement will bring to our pilots and their families and felt it was in the best interest of our pilots to forward the agreement to them for review,” said MEC chairman Capt. Chuck Dyer.
“This agreement represents a culmination of significant work from our negotiators, professional staff, subject-matter experts, and our elected representatives working closely with the National Mediation Board and FedEx management. In the end, we achieved an agreement which, if ratified by our pilots, will bring improvements that recognise our contribution to the success of FedEx. We look forward to presenting the tentative agreement to our membership for consideration.”
