UPS has submitted plans to build a 16,723 sqm distribution centre at the DP World London Gateway Logistics Park, a media report claims.

According to The Loadstar,co.uk, the application was received by Thurrock Council earlier this month and has been given a fast-track planning permission “determination deadline” for Monday 28 August.

The DC would serve as an overnight clearance facility for London and the South-East of the UK.

Following a request from CEP Research to comment on the report, a UPS spokesperson replied :

“UPS makes investments in our operations, our technology and our people to ensure that we can continue to provide unparalleled service to our customers and be in a position to grow the business. However, we cannot make specific, forward-looking statements about facility investments, and as such we cannot provide additional details at this time.”

UPS' main UK hub is currently located in Tamworth, in the Midlands while it also has a customer service centre in the Kentish Town area of London.
