Russian Post to invest nearly €1bn in infrastructure between 2015 and 2017

Russian Post is upgrading infrastructure

Russian Post plans to invest RUB 68.6 billion (€961 million) by 2017 to improve its infrastructure as part of its ongoing modernisation programme.

The Russian postal operator will spend over RUB 10 billion (€140 million) on infrastructure this year, nearly RUB 30 billion (€420 million) in 2016 and a further RUB 28 billion (€392 million) in 2017, after investment of RUB 8.44 billion (€118 million) in various areas last year.

In 2014, the company spent RUB 1.69 billion (€23.67 million) on the modernisation of postal services. In particular, RUB 736.6 million (€10.32 million) were spent on construction works, a 30% increase on 2013. Investments in the development of information and technological infrastructure amounted to RUB 2.4 billion (€33.63 million), which is 9% more than in 2013.

In this area in particular, Russian Post continued developing an integrated automated system of post offices (EAS OPS) and released a new version of its mobile app. It also upgraded its offices with new computer and office equipment, replaced outdated technology and purchased new servers.

On upgrading its postal infrastructure with new technology, Russian Post spent RUB 534 million (€7.48 million) last year. New postal trains and vans were acquired, as well as equipment for organising production processes and fire protection tools. In addition, the company completed the implementation of a single set of transport and logistics information systems based on GLONASS / GPS (ASMTS) technology.

The most important area of investment in 2014 was the modernisation of postal logistics infrastructure, with RUB 3.7 billion (€51.8 million) being spent on its implementation, including RUB 1.43 billion (20 million) to equip the postal logistics centre at the Vnukovo airport near Moscow with automated systems for sorting, mail exchange and transport, devices for automatic weighing and determining the volume of shipments.

“It is worth noting that over the last two years (2013-2014), RUB 10.7 billion (€149.9 million) were spent on modernising the postal logistics infrastructure which is almost RUB 3 billion more than was spent over the three years from 2010-2012 (RUB 7.9 billion),” Russian Post stressed.

The postal operator didn’t provide details on what the forthcoming investment of RUB 68.6 billion will be spent on during the period from 2015 to 2017.
