FedEx launches temperature-controlled services for healthcare customers in China

FedEx cold shipping

FedEx Express has launched “one-stop” cold chain solutions targeting especially healthcare customers in China with convenient and reliable temperature-controlled shipping services.

The outbound FedEx International Priority and domestic Priority Delivery services in China now offer two new packaging solutions: Gel-pack Temperature-Controlled Package and FedEx Cold Shipping Package.

With three temperature ranges between -20-0°, 2-8° and 15-25°, the services will benefit industries that require refrigeration for their shipments, particularly the healthcare industry.

The gel-pack temperature-controlled package solution offers a temperature-controlled environment in the three temperature ranges mentioned above for 72-120 hours for package sizes ranging from 10L to 3,410L.

The FedEx cold shipping package solution doesn’t require any pre-conditioning steps with the package maintaining a temperature of 2-8°C for up to 96 hours.

The new cold chain solutions are available across mainland China, with “door-to-door” express and monitoring services offered across the FedEx global and domestic networks.

To meet the exact shipping requirements of FedEx customers, these solutions can be combined with FedEx Priority Alert and the “Temperature Data Logger” device for proactive monitoring and notification of the shipment status and the temperature data during transportation.

“FedEx has made a conscious effort to innovate and develop logistics solutions that address the specific needs of different industries, including cold chain solutions for our healthcare customers,” Karen Reddington, president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific, said.

“The roll-out of our one-stop cold chain solutions in China marks a significant milestone in our drive to make these available wherever our customers need them. As well as the quick, convenient and reliable service they expect from FedEx, they now have the peace of mind of knowing they can entrust their temperature-sensitive shipments to us as well,” she added.

According to China Customs statistics, the export of pharmaceutical products continues to rise, with a year-on-year increase of 3.1% during the first six months of this year. By some estimates, 25% of all healthcare products are temperature-sensitive while more than half of the top 50 best-selling drugs will require cold-chain transportation by 2016.
