Hermes Germany and the same-day delivery specialist Liefery have won their first joint customer, the online retailer Alpenwelt, which has opened a pop-up store in Munich.
The contract comes just a month after Hermes bought a 28.5% stake in start-up LieferFactory GmbH, the Liefery parent company, to add same-day services to its product portfolio.
Specialised in the delivery of ‘Tracht’ (Bavarian traditional costumes), Alpenwelt belongs to the Unito Group which is part of Otto Group. The products bought in the store will be delivered on request in the evening between 7-9 pm on the same day at no extra cost to any address within the Munich area. Recipients receive an automatic notification when the courier is on the way.
The Alpenwelt pop-up store in the city centre of Munich will be opened from 10 am to 8 pm every day except for Sundays until 2 October ahead of the famous Oktoberfest which is taking place from 14 September to 4 October this year. Customers who shop locally at the store can get their items delivered by Liefery the same day and free of charge to any destination within the metropolitan area of Munich. Delivery can be made to the recipient’s home, office or even the hotel, holiday apartment or a private accommodation.
The service especially targets tourists who plan to visit the Oktoberfest in Munich this year and can profit from the same-day delivery of costumes bought from Alpenwelt while walking through the city centre.
Frank Rausch, CEO Hermes Logistics Group Germany, said: “The collaboration with Alpenwelt shows that same-day delivery also opens up new possibilities for traditional trade. This includes, on the one hand, classic, convenience-oriented services with the customer getting the goods bought offline delivered home on the same day. But beyond that, the same-day services provide new perspectives. Think, for example, of a small shop, which can present only a few products on site due to limited space. In the future, it could feature a warehouse in close proximity to store many other sizes, colours and models, which can then be delivered directly to the customer within a few hours. This is a real added value which offers new opportunities especially for small retailers.”
Liefery’s network comprises around 50 metropolitan areas across Germany where more than 2,500 couriers deliver shipments to recipients. If possible, pick-up and delivery are even made within 90 minutes, depending on the regional conditions, or a delivery appointment is made for the same day. As part of the cooperation with Alpenwelt, a two-hour delivery time slot was chosen.
Nils Fischer, co-founder and managing director Liefery, said: “I am very pleased that cooperation with Hermes works so quickly and so well. The newly puchased ‘Wiesn’ outfit no longer needs to be carried along to the beer garden or the Italian restaurant but we bring the Tracht to customer’s home the same evening – that’s a great service just in time for the Oktoberfest to make the hectic festival days more pleasant and relaxed.”
