Royal Mail has responded to rising SME and consumer demand with a new website for its premium guaranteed Sameday delivery service enabling consumers and businesses to book online same-day parcel collection and delivery services.
Via www.royalmailsameday.com, customers can now order on demand courier services on a pay-as-you-go basis, anytime of the day or night, seven days a week, 365 days a year. These can be booked online using a credit or debit card, without the need for an account. Bookings previously had to be made by phone.
Users of the service can follow every parcel they ship from start to finish using real-time GPS tracking, and will receive an e-mail or SMS confirmation as soon as their parcel is delivered.
While the service guarantees same-day delivery to nearly every destination across the UK, depending on the availability and connecting timescales, 98% of the bookings are collected from the sender within one hour. To ensure this speed, Royal Mail uses satellite technology to assign the nearest driver to collect each booking and send it on its way as quickly as possible. 99.9% of Royal Mail’s Sameday orders are delivered within 24 hours.
The UK postal operator extended the access to its Sameday collection and delivery services in response to demand from SMEs, marketplace sellers and consumers who wanted guaranteed delivery for urgent items. Research from MetaPack revealed that same-day delivery is the service that UK consumers are most likely to use in the future: 76% of consumers expressed a desire to use same-day delivery, ahead of 69% who wanted delivery within one hour.
