Whistl, the UK’s second largest postal operator, has announced new customer wins that will increase its mail volumes this year following its recent exit from the final-mile delivery business.
Its letter collection and sorting (DSA Downstream Access) division, which uses Royal Mail for delivery, has been strengthened through some significant new client wins and the company will handle over 3.75 billion items of mail this year after winning business in a range of sectors from finance through to retail.
One of the biggest wins is Lancashire-based Hotter Shoes with 21 million items a year, followed by outsourcing company Serco and Griffin Media which is based in Kent. Other notable wins include Royal Liverpool NHS; direct marketing companies Meridian Delta and Kingsline; online print company Vista Print; financial services company Admin RE; and the outsourcer Mittie.
Nick Wells, CEO Whistl, said: “The new clients join over 6000 clients across the UK that trust Whistl to provide a quality and cost efficient service. I am delighted that we continue to grow and strengthen our leading position within the UK postal market.
“Our continued investment in core business divisions DSA and international, door drop media, packets and parcels and logistics are enabling us to broaden our client base and I look forward to announcing new client wins in the coming months.”
The company pulled out of the final-mile deliveries business last year and closed down its small loss-making delivery operation with some 2,000 job losses in London, Manchester and Liverpool. The move came after a potential financial backer for the planned national rollout of end-to-end (E2E) services pulled out due to changes in British regulatory and market conditions.
Whistl, formerly known as TNT Post, is the second largest UK postal company and provides Mail, Packets and Parcels, Doordrop Media and Logistics. In 2014, the company increased its revenues by 3.2% to €753 million but its profitability was impacted by start-up losses related to the end-to-end services.
