UPS has promoted George Willis

UPS, TNT, CTT Group, Posti’s subsidiary OpusCapita, P2P Group, Tuffnells Parcels Express, ByBox and Spring Global Mail have made senior managerial appointments during June.

At UPS, George Willis has been promoted to West Region President, following a two-year tenure as UK, Ireland and Nordics District Manager where he was responsible for operations, business development and strategy, overseeing roughly 9,500 employees. He succeeds Jerry Mattes, who has been appointed as US Operations Manager at UPS.

In his new position, Willis is now responsible for all package delivery operations in 25 central and western states in the United States. He has held various positions at UPS during a more than 30-year career with the company after starting out as a part-time package handler in the Georgia District in 1984.

At TNT, Thierry Miremont (57) was named President Domestic France succeeding Andries Waalberg who moved to the company’s headquarters in Amsterdam to occupy other functions within the company. Miremont will take the lead of TNT’s domestic business in France and continue to implement the company’s global ‘Outlook’ strategy in the country. He has extensive experience in company management and implementation of transformation programmes in different business sectors.

“With an unrivalled position in Europe and France, TNT has tremendous growth potential, backed by outstanding commitment and professionalism of all staff. Together we will continue contributing to the company’s progress, both with our customers and our employees,” Miremont said.

TNT Germany has appointed Kees Menken (51) as the new Director Operations & Engineering with effect from mid-April replacing Alexander Ferrier who has taken on a new position within the company. Menken is an experienced operational manager with over 25 years of know-how in executive positions at international transport and logistics companies. He worked, among others, at Deutsche Post DHL in different European countries for 16 years.

In Portugal, the state postal operator CTT Group has appointed Luis Pereira Coutinho to lead its postal bank project. With extensive experience in finances and banking, the economist has worked in recent years as Executive Administrator of Portugal’s major private bank Millennium BCP, responsible for the group's operations in several countries. CTT Group, which was privatised at the end of 2013, plans to launch the postal bank by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, OpusCapita, part of the Posti Group, has appointed Patrik Sallner (45) as the new CEO. Sallner has had a long career in international management positions at various companies. OptusCapita provides automation of financial processes and related services.

In the UK, the mailing and distribution solutions provider, P2P Group, has appointed Peter Somers, former Managing Director of bpost parcels and international and member of the Executive Committee of bpost, to its board as Non-Executive Director. In his new position, Somers will help to shape the strategic direction of P2P and consolidate the company’s position in the market as a leading independent and privately owned distribution solutions provider to the e-commerce sector both in the UK and abroad.

Somers commented: “I have worked with P2P for a number of years and have been impressed with what they have achieved in a relatively short timescale. P2P has a great deal to offer the e-commerce sector with a number of key strategic initiatives in the pipeline.”

Commenting on the new appointment, Paul Galpin, Managing Director of P2P Mailing, said: “We are extremely pleased to add Peter’s wealth of experience to the board at a time when P2P is enjoying significant growth thanks to innovative service offerings such as TRAKPAK. We increased revenues from £29.3m during April 2013 to March 2014, to £33.5m for the nine months between April and December 2014. Our latest growth figures show that the company is continuing to expand at an impressive pace, and with the addition of Peter to our team we are fully focused on building on this success.”

Also in the UK, Tuffnells Parcels Express has named Chris Ward as its new Managing Director with effect from 29 June 2015. Ward has worked for various UK companies, mostly recently as chief operating officer at B&Q. As intended at the time of the acquisition of Tuffnells by Connect Group in December 2014, Lloyd Dunn, the current Managing Director of Tuffnells, will step down from his position but continue to support Ward until the end of the year.

In another UK appointment, Claudine Mosseri has been appointed Group Services Director at ByBox with responsibility for all customer relationships. The move follows the recent appointments of Dan Turner as CEO of ByBox Networks and Steve Huxter as chief technology officer of ByBox Field Support Limited.
