DPD-branded vans will start delivering parcels in the Nordic countries under an expanded partnership between France’s DPDgroup and PostNord announced today that will link their networks and focus more on B2C parcels in future.
PostNord is already the DPD franchise partner for the Nordic region under a long-standing cooperation dating back to 2002. The Swedish-Danish postal group delivers DPD import parcels across the region while La Poste’s European parcels network delivers PostNord’s international parcel volumes from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland to the rest of Europe.
DPDgroup, the second-largest service provider on the European parcel market, and Scandinavian market leader PostNord said the core of the expanded cooperation is “an assertive B2C strategy” which will link the B2C networks of the two partners, creating a harmonised parcel shop network of 26,000 locations in Europe.
PostNord’s customers will gain access to the DPDgroup parcel shop network of more than 20,000 locations in 10 countries across Europe, where parcels can be both collected and returned, while DPD shipments can take advantage of PostNord’s network of nearly 6,000 parcel points.
The partnership also encompasses new mobile services that enable consumers to control and customise their deliveries. The award-winning DPD ‘Predict’ solution will now be available to European consumers also on parcels sent from the Nordics.
To reinforce the expanded Europe-wide partnership visually to customers within the Nordic region, some 200 PostNord delivery vans will feature the DPD brand in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland by the end of this year.
“We’re extremely satisfied that we’re able to offer our customers a comprehensive and more robust offering for the European B2C market, which is being expanded with advanced service content on delivery,” said Peter Kjaer Jensen, Head of Business Area Logistics at PostNord.
“Our partnership, which is now acquiring additional advanced content, is a long and successful one. PostNord is the leading supplier of logistics and e-commerce services in the Nordic region, and through our partnership we can offer DPD’s customers access to 5,800 parcel shops in the Nordic countries,” added Christian Emery, Deputy Chairman of GeoPost and Chief Operating Officer Europe DPDgroup.
Furthermore, “our long term partnership with PostNord allows today a seamless connection to all our customers across Europe,” commented Arnold Schroven, Executive Vice President strategic projects & partnerships of GeoPost.
DPDgroup is the parcel delivery network of GeoPost, which posted sales of €4.9 billion in 2014. With 26,000 people and a network of 20,000 local Pickup parcel shops, DPDgroup delivers 3 million parcels to over 230 countries each day through its four commercial brands (DPD, Chronopost, SEUR and Interlink Express), including a rising number of B2C parcels.
PostNord is also targeting the growing e-commerce market, which has advanced further in the Nordic region than other parts of Europe, and which is generating strong growth in B2C parcels, including cross-border goods bought on international websites for delivery to the Nordic region.
