UPS and Hermes have made several managerial appointments during May.
In Thailand, UPS has appointed Boon Tiam Tan as the new Managing Director who will be responsible for all aspects of UPS Thailand's business from small package, freight forwarding to contract logistics. Over the last ten years, Tan has held various positions at UPS in audit, treasury, finance and accounting at the Asia Pacific Region Office and China. Prior to his current appointment, Tan was based in China as Director of Finance and Accounting for UPS China.
“With intra-ASEAN trade demonstrating strong growth, we believe that a regional trade bloc like the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) holds many benefits for our customers in Thailand and the region,” Jim O’Gara, President of South Asia District, UPS Asia, said. “Tan brings with him a wealth of business experience that puts him in an ideal position to lead UPS Thailand in supporting our customers to capture the growth opportunities presented with the establishment of the AEC.”
“Thailand’s strategic location makes it an important gateway for our customers and UPS. As the country shows signs of economic recovery, I am focused on strengthening our efforts to deliver more value to our customers by gaining a deeper understanding of their business pain points,” Tan said.
Currently, more than a quarter of Thailand’s exports are intra-ASEAN, he added. “Along with the government’s effort on eliminating trade barriers and promoting exports expansion through recent approved infrastructure programs and special economic zones, we are excited about the prospects ahead for our customers, particularly those in the automotive and high-tech industries.”
In Germany, UPS has appointed Holger Ostwald (46) as a new external communications manager at the company’s headquarters in Neuss, taking over from Thomas Schlichting (54). Schlichting has taken on the position of Sales Talent Manager Europe & Asia at UPS Capital, the financial and insurance services arm of the US integrator. As an expert in public relations, Ostwald has led the UPS Germany communications team at the Havas PR Düsseldorf GmbH (formerly Euro RSCG ABC) for the last eleven years.
At Hermes, Malte Gosau and Martin Kreiter have been appointed as the new management team for the company’s subsidiary ‘BorderGuru’, which, for the first time, allows online retailers to sell and deliver their goods around the world. BorderGuru will also be headquartered in Hamburg like its parent company Hermes Group. Today, BorderGuru facilitates shipment from the US to all destinations worldwide. The coming weeks will see the start of initial tests for shipping from Europe to the US and China.
Gosau previously worked at the Hamburg-based IT consulting firm Nexinto GmbH as Sales Director and at Easyjet as General Manager and lawyer for Germany and Switzerland. Kreiter has been working with Hermes for eleven years and will also remain in his current position as Division Manager for Marketing and Business Development E-Commerce of Hermes Group, along with his new job.
