GLS Italy acquires new depot in Ravenna

GLS depot in Ravenna

GLS has acquired a new depot in Ravenna, northern Italy, which bring the number of the company-owned depots to 51 out of the 140 locations in the country overall.

This acquisition is part of the company’s investment strategy in Italy. “GLS has been continuously growing in Italy for years, despite the economic crisis, and keeps investing in depots, technologies and employees,” Klaus Schädle, GLS Italy Managing Director, said. “We want to support the new depot’s growth in the biggest city of Romagna by leveraging synergies with other locations in the region.”

The delivery area of the site covers the entire province of Ravenna. The regional economy is mainly driven by the trade port with terminals for mineral oil, general cargo, bulky goods and containers which attracts many multinational corporations.

In the province of Ravenna, GLS transports mainly goods for companies that are active in the spare parts industry, precision engineering and machine tools industry.

"To ensure that we can continue offering our customers the quality they are used to, we have taken all the staff from the depot," Schädle added.
