GLS Germany has launched a “Day of the Parcel” with an inaugural event in Frankfurt city centre on 30 May and plans to celebrate it across Europe on the last Saturday of May every year.
For the event, GLS invited pedestrians to take part in different activities at a dedicated ‘action area’. These included surprise packages, selfies, competitions and an artistic challenge. As part of the challenge, the citizens of Frankfurt were invited to design an oversize parcel artwork together with the graffiti-artists of the "artmos4" agency that will be placed at a GLS depot later on.
GLS also set up an ‘outdoor parcel shop’ where recipients could pick up a parcel by presenting a notification card that promoters distributed in the city centres. The package contained give-aways.
At the end of the day, around 600 visitors picked up their surprise package while numerous other people visited the GLS action area and made selfies, participated in creating the big parcel artwork and informed themselves about the GLS services for private customers.
“Thousands of parcels are sent and received every day. Parcels have thus become an important part of modern lifestyle,” Anne Putz, Head of Corporate Communication at GLS, said. “With this action day, we give a face to parcel shipping and show the people who ensure backstage that parcels reach their recipients safely and on time.”
Next year, other GLS country subsidiaries will also organise different events for the Day of the Parcel.
