Siemens has outsourced its Logistics and Airport Solutions unit under the new name ‘Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics GmbH’ (SPPAL) in Germany, which will continue operating as a new independent company under the Siemens umbrella.
Siemens described the move as a ‘decisive milestone’ that will ensure the company’s stability and maintain its leading position as a provider of technology and solutions for logistics processes in the long term.
As an independent company, SPPAL is structured in a way that it can operate more quickly and efficiently in a competitive environment dominated by medium-sized companies. It has a sound financial footing to strengthen its market position. Through the takeover of AXIT GmbH some months ago, for example, SPPAL has been able to significantly expand its market position in cloud-based logistics IT.
CEO Michael Reichle said: “I am pleased that we now have the necessary flexibility to shape the future of the new Siemens Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics GmbH. We are doing everything we can to seize opportunities in the fast growing parcel and airport markets. In doing so, our focus is always on maximizing customer benefit."
SPPAL’s main customers include numerous large international airports as well as postal and parcel service providers worldwide. The company has been active in over 60 countries for many years now.
