GLS Germany opens new depot to optimise delivery rounds

GLS

GLS Germany has opened a new depot to optimise deliveries in and around the German state of
Saxony-Anhalt.

The new depot in Rossla is intended to relieve pressure from the three other GLS sites in the
region and optimise delivery rounds.

Rossla lies exactly in the middle between the delivery districts of the GLS depots in Guxhagen,
Zwintschöna near Leipzig, and Thörey near Erfurt. With immediate effect, it is taking over some
delivery rounds, mainly in remote districts, from all of the three locations respectively.

GLS said this would reduce travel times to the delivery locations around the catchment area in
Rossla by up to 90 minutes, while both delivery rounds and the follow-up times will be shorter.

The depot already took over five delivery rounds from Guxhagen. By the end of June, eleven
rounds are due to be taken over. Up to 14 rounds are planned to be taken over in total.

On an area of 1,300 sqm, the new depot handles up to 3,000 shipments daily. GLS invested around
€100,000 in the conveyor system and equipment at the new facility.
