TNT has selected HP Enterprise Services Ltd to consolidate and virtualise its IT infrastructureto support the technology transformation that forms a key part of its ‘Outlook’ modernisation
programme and includes large-scale IT outsourcing activities. With the six-year contract, TNT expects to improve its performance and control costs thusproviding a ‘solid foundation for profitable growth’.
In addition to consolidating and virtualising TNT’s infrastructure, HP will move some functionsto its HP Helion Managed Virtual Private Cloud environment based on OpenStack technology. This openstandards-based common architecture cloud platform enables new capabilities such as ‘bursting’workloads, which will allow TNT to consume and pay for capacity only when needed.
All this will result in a simplified business model, a standardised technical landscape andensure flexible service levels, which, in turn, will enable TNT to keep up with changing marketconditions, HP explained.
In concrete terms, costs will be reduced by consolidating the company’s IT estate to fewerlocations, virtualising its servers and transforming older architectures to managed cloud services.TNT’s defined data centre networks will be based on HP servers, storage and networking, along withHP-managed security services. In addition, HP will switch TNT’s IT infrastructure to a so-calledInfrastructure as-a-Service (IaaS) model, which will further increase efficiency and ensure bettercost control.
“Transforming the provision of data centre services across the world will provide TNT with asolid foundation to support its growth strategy,” Jacqui Ferguson, general manager UK&I andMEMA, HP Enterprise Services, said. “As a global partner with presence in all TNT’s operatingcountries, and a comprehensive technology and IT investment solutions portfolio, HP will provideservices that can be scaled with the business.”
With the broadest technology portfolio spanning printing, personal systems, software, servicesand IT infrastructure, HP (Hewlett-Packard Development Company) delivers solutions for customers’most complex challenges in every region of the world.
Earlier this month TNT already signed separate contracts with two other major suppliers Verizonand Infosys to implement the company’s global communications infrastructure and transform itstechnology applications respectively. Under a five-year agreement, Infosys will act as TNT’sstrategic partner for application development and maintenance services to help TNT overhaul its ITcapability, to reduce complexity and cost and increase flexibility.
