Hermes UK expands delivery fleet with 54 Euro 6 DAF trucks from Ryder

Hermes orders 54 Euro 6 DAF trucks

Hermes UK has strengthened its delivery fleet with 54 new Euro 6 DAF utility vehicles ordered oncontract hire from Ryder, the independent provider of commercial vehicle rental solutions.

The deal comprises 30 DAF trucks with 4×2 tractor units, 20 of which have been added to theHermes fleet while the other 10 are replacing older vehicles. The remaining 24 DAF trucks include12-tonne rigids as a direct replacement for the 7.5 tonners.

These new trucks bring the total number of Ryder contract hire vehicles in the Hermes fleet toapproximately 450 trucks which operate from Hermes distribution hubs in Warrington and Nuneaton and25 radial depots strategically spread across the UK.

Hermes UK has been cooperating with Ryder since the year 2000. “We’ve outsourced to Ryder, forboth contract hire and rental vehicles, for a number of years due to the quality andcost-effectiveness of the service it provides. Furthermore, the expansion of its vehicle fleet atthe heavier end of the spectrum has definitely worked to our advantage. As a result, we anticipatethat Ryder will continue to be our preferred transportation partner going forward,” Rob Elmore,Hermes’ fleet services manager, said.

“We handle more than 200 million collections and deliveries per year via our network of 9,000lifestyle couriers, and it is essential that this operation has the resources in place to meet theprecise needs of our retail customers. Our relationship with Ryder ensures we have the flexibilityto meet demand and continue to provide high levels of service,” he added.
