UPS expands four North American facilities

UPS has expanded four more facilities in North America boosting its supply chain solutionsnetwork size and giving it more capacity for the current peak season and beyond.

The rapid growth of customers in the high-tech, industrial manufacturing and retail industriesfuelled demand for the expansions, which total nearly 1.2m sq. ft (111,484 sqm), the companysaid.

The new or expanded facilities are in Mira Loma, California; Hebron, Kentucky; Louisville,Kentucky; and Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This marks the second time in 2014 that both the Mira Lomaand Hebron campuses increased in size.

“These investments are needed to not only support our existing customers and their growth but toalso create capacity to support our new business expansion,” said Stephen Hydrick, UPS vicepresident of North American distribution. “As our customers grow, we will continue to find andinvest in solutions.” The size of the financial investment was not disclosed.

After increasing the Mira Loma campus in southern California by 309,000 sq. ft. in April, thisbuilding in Fontana, Calif., has added an additional 228,000 sq. ft (21,182 sqm), giving the campusa total size of 1.6 million sq. ft. (148,645 sqm). The campus is one hour from the two largestseaports in the US, just five minutes from LA/Ontario Airport, a UPS regional air hub, within eightmiles of four major freeways, and just 15 minutes to transcontinental rail connections.

The Hebron campus, considered a key logistics operation serving the retail industry, has accessto 62% of the US population within two days via UPS Ground and 64% using UPS Freight. The campus,which increased in size by 151,000 sq. ft. in April, added an additional 274,000 sq. ft. (25,455sqm) with this investment, and the total Hebron campus size now includes 1.25 million sq. ft.(116,129 sqm). The campus is minutes from the Greater Cincinnati Airport.

The Shepherdsville, Kentucky location, located within 20 minutes of the UPS Worldport hub,increased by 606,000 sq. ft (56,299 sqm). The company’s total supply chain solutions size in theLouisville area is now 4.4 million sq. ft. (408,773 sqm).

In Toronto, Ontario, the expansion added 62,000 sq. ft. (5,760 sqm) to the Mississauga-basedfacility, which is located less than 10 minutes from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. UPS’total size in the greater Toronto area now includes 2 million sq. ft. (185,806 sqm).

UPS’s global supply chain solutions network includes 596 facilities and nearly 32.8 million sq.ft. (3.05m sqm). Services and capabilities offered at UPS supply chain facilities include:warehousing and fulfillment; inventory, transportation and returns management; custom kitting andpackaging; and store-ready displays.
