TNT has signed a worldwide deal to install machine vision technology from German firm VitronicGmbH at more than 100 sites throughout Europe and later in other parts of the world.
Under the long-term global partnership, TNT’s hubs, gateways and service centres will beequipped with the latest machine vision technology for data capture of all transported items,Vitronic announced.
The initial project, which covers over 100 sites throughout Europe, consists of systems thatread barcodes, measure the volume and check the weight and capture 3D images of conveyables, smalls& documents and non-conveyables.
Vitronic said it will deliver more than 600 systems for conveyable items, for smalls &documents at manual workstations and for non-conveyable items to TNT. All systems include volumeand weight measurement. The contract includes supply, installation, commissioning and after-salessupport for all of Europe.
TNT delivers up to a million consignments per day and needs a reliable partner who providessystems that automatically capture the exact data on every item that is transported, the Germansupplier said. To provide a superior service to customers at optimal costs, TNT processes need tobe automated and optimised, daily volumes need to be planned and invoicing data needs to becorrect.
