“This is a fantastic milestone of which I am proud. Today we will deliver a parcel to around 1in 7 households in our country,” said PostNL Parcels Director, Gerrit Mastenbroek. Approximately700 trailers brought today’s 1 million items to the sorting centres ready for delivery.
PostNL said its delivery drivers and sorting centres are running at full strength in December.Around 30-35% more parcels are sent and delivered in the final 6 weeks of the year. In the comingweeks PostNL expects the amount of 1 million parcels per day to be exceeded a few more times.
The parcels are processed in 19 sorting centres spread across the Netherlands. To cope with thehigh amount of parcels a few hundred extra temporary employees are deployed in the centres. Fromthere many delivery vans will have to make two trips a day, with different drivers in December, dueto the high demand.
As well as early and regular delivery, including Sundays, PostNL also offers evening delivery onall weekdays in December.
